The Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) announced that Southern Nevada home builder Pulte Homes, along with its Del Webb brand, has joined the Water Smart Home program.
The program, developed by SNWA in partnership with the Southern Nevada Home Builders' Association, certifies new neighborhoods as water-smart when homes have been equipped with water-saving measures with the capacity to conserve as much as 75,000 gallons of water per year.
"Pulte Homes is at the forefront of placing higher values on environmentally superior products," said SNWA conservation manager Doug Bennett. "Participation in the Water Smart Home program is one more way Pulte is helping to enhance the quality of life in Southern Nevada and demonstrate its commitment to our community."
SNWA's Water Smart Home program is available to Southern Nevada home builders committed to providing their customers with homes that exceed federal water efficiency standards. The voluntary, builder-funded program is the largest water efficiency program for new homes in the nation.
Pulte's first Water Smart neighborhood will be Villa Trieste, a residential development in Summerlin, near the Charleston Boulevard gateway to the Red Rock National Canyon Conservation Area.
Pulte also will build 20 ultra-high-efficiency homes in the same development as part of a joint venture with the SNWA in a national study of water efficiency in new homes jointly sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency.
Outdoors, Water Smart Homes feature water-smart landscaping.
