RADIO: Dave and Mahoney score show on new KXNT-FM

Projecting the image of one big, happy radio family, morning hosts Dave and Mahoney, while keeping their weekday show on KXTE-FM, 107.5, have scored a new Saturday show on the expanded KXNT operation. The pair will host the mixed martial arts sports-talk program, “The MMA:30 Radio Hour” on KXNT-FM, 100.5. Both stations are owned by CBS Radio.

After the two-hour pilot this Saturday from noon to 2 p.m., “MMA” will settle into a 9 to 10 a.m. slot.

“They approached me and we said great,” says Bob Agnew, program director of news-talk KXNT-AM, 840 and its FM counterpart, the latter having recently switched over from its former Jack FM music format to a weekday simulcast of KXNT-AM, then programming sports on the weekends.

“These guys are youthful, energetic and very passionate about MMA,” Agnew says. “Doing research, I realized this is one hot sport, surpassing boxing, wrestling, maybe even NASCAR. The amount of revenue generated by the league is amazing and the demographics are phenomenal, 18-plus.”

“MMA,” which will feature host talk, in-studio MMA guests and listener calls, will be followed by “Over and Under with Corey, Chad and Lee,” focusing on football news and betting. During the fall, the weekend sports programming will be dominated by football doubleheaders, broadcasting two college games on Saturdays and two pro games on Sundays.
