READER MAIL: My Dad

Thanks to all of you who enjoyed hearing from my dad in Monday's column. I received more positive reader response to that column than almost any other column this year. I'm grateful, more than you could know. Just some of my Monday emails:

-------

I can hardly believe there is so much life energy in one human being. He is truly a “Renaissance man.” I would love to meet him next time he visits LV, so perhaps you could gather a few hundred of your local “friends” (I know we’ve never met) to meet and greet when he’s here again. In the meantime, I for one would love an occasional update on his many varied activities, interests and explorations. I hope to be even half as active and inspiring as I reach his age. I’m so glad you chose to share this glimpse of your role model, mentor and father with us. Thank you!

Your dad is too cool! Thanks for sharing him with  us.

Subject: Love ur Old Man!
He sounds great! I don't know him or you, but I miss him already too!

-------

sounds like your dad is cool - what happened to you? nah nah just joking-
good story - just like I tell a lot of people here they are leaving here by the thousands
Vegas
- a chance to ride the wildest merry-go-round on Earth in search of the
last place to try and find the vanishing American dream - a thread -
brass rings in Vegas come in all colors-
spend more time with your Dad - who knows he might learn something you
stay deep

Dear Doug

The article on your Dad in today’s paper was excellent.

What an exciting person he was and is.

It totally upsets me that the Clark County School Board would overlook a person of this caliber for our children’s education since the
need for teachers in ClarkCounty is as tremendous as reported.

We need “smart” people in this county who can both offer education and life experience to our students.

I am extremely disappointed in the School Board and there decision and now have NO SYMPATHY at all when they are crying in need of teachers.

Thank you.

Your column today is now my favorite piece of yours. Heartfelt is always the best. Good job.

-------

Really enjoyed your column on your Fathers visit. What a interesting and versatile background he has.

The way you wrote the column was perfect. Your Father did slam some of the things that maybe needed or did not need slamming in Las Vegas. (A lot of people remember when Vegas was a different town.)

We are definitely different now, but in a lot of good ways, I think you pointed that out very nicely without slamming his ideas (which it seems with his character that would be hard to do).

Too bad he had to go back to Atlanta, he would have been a wonderful contribution to our town.

-------

Wonderful column today. Writing about your father in Las Vegas in the unique way you did brings new insight and reveals much about you and the joyous curiosity you have for life. That's inspiring.
