Publication receives national honors

Nevada Contractor, the official publication of the Nevada Contractors Association, a Las Vegas-based nonprofit industry trade group, has won the 2009 Apex Award of Excellence for "Most Improved Magapapers & Newspaper."

"It's an honor to be recognized with such a prestigious award," said Mike Olson, 2009 chairman of the Nevada Contractor Association, which owns and publishes the monthly tabloid paper. The Apex Awards is a 21-year-old national awards programs recognizing excellence in publishing throughout several different categories.

Book about housing wins first prize

The Skinny on the Housing Crisis by Jim Randel was awarded first prize by Bruss Book Competition sponsored by the National Association of Real Estate Editors in Washington, D.C. at their annual convention. NAREE is an organization of 650 journalists and business experts who follow housing, finance and real estate matters.

The Skinny on the Housing Crisis is part of the newly created "The Skinny On" book series by Rand Publishing. Founder Jim Randel is an author, attorney and real estate entrepreneur.
