Rebels welcome six football recruits this weekend

UNLV's football team welcomes six recruits this weekend, including a quarterback who previously committed to Colorado, a safety who committed to Idaho, a local standout and two prospects from UNR's backyard.

Here is the list in alphabetical order:

— Punter Tyler Bennett, Phoenix College, 5 feet 11 inches, 205 pounds. Averaged 43.7 yards, second in the National Junior College Athletic Association.

— Offensive lineman Alex Eekhoff, Bishop Manogue (Reno) High School, 6-7, 240.

— Defensive end Jonathan Parker, Carson High, 6-4, 230. Made 80 tackles, including five sacks, and rushed for 274 yards (6.1 per carry).

— Linebacker Don Pearson, Faith Lutheran High, 6-2, 205. Rivals.com three-star prospect and Scout.com two-star recruit. San Diego State also has offered a scholarship.

— Quarterback Nick Sherry, Casa Grande (Petaluma, Calif.) High, 6-5, 210. Previously committed to Colorado, but new staff didn't honor the commitment. His decision now is down to UNLV and Idaho, though many schools have made contact. Rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals and a two-star by Scout. Also ranked the nation's No. 102 quarterback by Scout. Passed for 2,663 yards and 25 touchdowns, with six interceptions.

— Safety Peni Vea, Kealakehe (Kailua Kona, Haw.) High. Has committed to Idaho. Rated as a two-star prospect and nation's No. 107 safety by Scout. Made 79 tackles, including two sacks, and intercepted three passes.
