Reid health care counsel gets bill-signing souvenir
President Barack Obama used 22 pens to sign the historic health care reform bill into law on Tuesday, and by tradition gave most of them to key supporters and lawmakers who helped move the legislation to passage.
One of the pens was given to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada. Reid, in turn, has given the pen to Kate Leone, his health care counsel and lead staffer on the bill who, according to Reid's office, "helped get this across the finish line."
Leone, 38, is from Princeton, N.J. She began working with Reid in January 2005, after working for Sen. Tom Daschle, the previous Democratic leader. Roll Call, a newspaper and Web site that covers Capitol Hill, has declared her one of its "10 staffers to know" on health care.
