Reid on latest jobless numbers: Welcome news, we need to keep fighting

Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., reacting to the report today that the unemployment picture for Nevada and for Las Vegas improved during October, said this in a statement:

“While this decline in unemployment is welcome news, we need to keep fighting for Nevadans to create jobs and strengthen the economy. We have made progress in that effort through our work to develop clean energy resources and technologies. In the coming months, thousands of Nevadans will start working on clean energy projects such as the north-south transmission line, and in new facilities manufacturing LED lighting, wind turbines, and solar power systems.

“Even though we are seeing positive results in clean energy and through legislation designed to cut taxes and improve access to capital for small businesses, it is clear that we still have a lot of work to do.  In the coming weeks, we can take another important step to ease the burden by extending tax cuts for middle class families.  With the holiday season upon us, Nevada families shouldn’t have to face a tax increase as they ring in the New Year.”
