Reid on Nevada jobless numbers: “Emphasizes the need to diversify our state’s economy and create jobs”

Following the report that Nevada's unemployment rate increased to 14 percent in May, Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., put out the following statement:

“It is clear from today’s news that Nevada continues to struggle through these extreme economic conditions. This increase in our unemployment rate only emphasizes the need to diversify our state’s economy and create jobs. Not every solution can come out of Washington but I am working every day to attract new businesses and industries to our state, including those that will put people to work by making Nevada the leader in developing clean energy. Through tax cuts for businesses and other incentives, we have prevented this bad situation from becoming even worse. New companies are coming to Nevada, but the reality is that there is still a lot more work to do before we dig ourselves out of this economic hole. I am confident that by working together we can overcome these challenges and restore Nevada's economic vitality."
