Reid returns West Point ring after DADT

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid kept his promise to Army Lt. Dan Choi Wednesday, returning his West Point class ring after President Obama signed the ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’ repeal.

Choi gave Reid his ring at a July meeting in Las Vegas saying that the ban against gays serving openly in the military had diminished its value to him. Reid promised to return the ring once the policy was removed.

“Did you ever think you would get it back?” Reid asked when they met Wednesday.

“I didn’t know,” Choi said, and then thanked Reid for keeping his promise.

In a tweet, Choi alluded to the battle that lays ahead for him – gay marriage.

“The next time I get a ring from a man, I expect it to be for full, equal, American marriage,” he said.

Politico’s Jonathan Allen reported on the event here.
