Reid sponsors fundraiser for Berkley

When Rep. Shelley Berkley announced last week she was running for U.S.Senate, Sen. Harry Reid promised, "I'll do anything for her."

Reid's first-disclosed effort for his fellow Nevada Democrat will be May 26, when he hosts a fundraising breakfast for Berkley at The Source, the Wolfgang Puck restaurant on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Politico first reported the event this morning, including the attached invite. Suggested contributions range from $1,000 to $2,500.

The Source is said to be one of Reid's favorite restaurants. It's where he held a party in May 2008 to celebrate publication of his book, "The Good Fight."

News of the fundraiser came the morning after Sen. John Ensign. R-Nev., announced he was resigning, and as Republicans began rallying around Rep. Dean Heller, Berkley's Republican rival in the Senate race who is likely to be appointed to fill the sudden vacancy. It could be the Democrats' way of signaling they will not cede an inch to the GOP in the 2012 Nevada campaign.
