Reid to host local stimulus workshop

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., is hosting a seminar in Las Vegas in a couple of weeks to connect local businesses, governments and other groups with funds from the federal stimulus bill.

The April 16 event is to take place from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Mandalay Bay. According to the senator's office, 40 federal and state agencies have been invited and Reid's staff will be there to answer questions.

Those who want to attend should register at the senator's Web site, reid.senate.gov, as soon as possible.

Reid's office also has issued a guide to the funds provided in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009; it too is available on the Web site.

“We want to make it as simple and straightforward as possible for every Nevadan to have the opportunity to take part in this money,” Reid said in a prepared statement. “There are hundreds of programs included in the economic recovery package, and this seminar will make it easier to get the funding for them into the hands of those who need it quicker and more efficiently.”

Nevada got about $1.5 billion in direct aid in the bill that passed last month.
