Reid: Women are tougher
WASHINGTON — Sen Harry Reid was preparing to testify this morning at the Senate's Energy Committee when Sen. Lisa Murkowski limped into the room on crutches. She had ripped two ligaments and cartilage in her left knee in a skiing accident Sunday at home in Alaska.
The hobbled senator's entrance prompted Reid into a riff on the sexes.
"Men are always being macho about their injuries," Reid said, but Murkowski took a red eye back to Washington hours after her fall and went in for an MRI exam only on Tuesday.
Reid then noted his 9-year-old granddaughter, whose name is Mia, unknowingly broke her arm Friday in a bicycle accident. Still she starred in a weekend basketball tournament.
"She is left-handed and broke her left arm," Reid said. Her mother reported the girl would grab at her arm after taking shots.
"I think we have established, at least in my mind, that women are tougher than men," Reid concluded.
