Report: Sen. Scott Brown to sit this one out
June 16, 2010 - 6:32 am
Republican Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts is a hero to many Tea Party activists. His election in January as an underdog lent some measure of cache and credibility to the movement that shared credit for his victory.
So it may be disappointing to Tea Party favorite Sharron Angle that Brown says he plans to sit out the Nevada Senate race where she is the Republican challenger to Sen. Harry Reid.
Brown told The Hill he does not plan to campaign for Angle or donate to her. In fairness, he said he and his advisers will be getting involved in "very few races."
“I’m not planning on getting involved in that race,” he told the newspaper. “I’m just focusing on doing my job here.”
“I wish her well, but I’m really just focused on the business at hand right now,” he said of Angle, according to The Hill.
The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday that Brown was one of the senators who Angle sought out during her luncheon with Republican senators.
Maybe it is coincidence or not, but Brown is among the moderate Republicans that Majority Leader Harry Reid has courted throughout the spring as a potential crossover to support Democratic initiatives.
According to The Hill, several centrist Republican senators were not rushing to support Angle, which is probably not surprising given their differences in philosophy.
