Restaurant workers want 25 percent tip … here’s what I want

The news this morning says that while most people tip between 15 and 20 percent on meals, restaurant workers in San Francisco say it's time to move the standard to 25 percent.

I say "fine." Let's make the standard tip 25 percent, but in return restaurants must reduce their current prices by 10 percent. As a consumer (who takes most of his meals out and tips at the top end of the current standard) that seems only fair. I'm tempted to suggest that the IRS also require food workers to claim 25 percent on their taxes (instead of the current 15 percent). But even in jest I can't go that far. Screw Obama and the IRS. Don't make workers claim anything.

Oh and BTW, I'll be going out to dinner tonight in Las Vegas. If the service is good our server will get 20 percent. But, because I put my money where my mouth (and pen) is, if the establishment will take 10 percent off the entire bill, I'll spring for the demanded 25 percent. Let's make a deal.
