Retired Mountain Falls couple finds work

When Yvonne and Jerry Brown retired to Mountain Falls, they said they wanted to meet as many of their new neighbors as possible.

So they got part-time jobs working within the William Lyon Homes master-planned golf community in Pahrump, located about 45 miles west of Las Vegas.

"It's so fun to live and work here," said Yvonne Brown, who works at the community resident facility. Jerry Brown is employed as a starter and marshal at Mountain Falls Golf Club, an 18-hole parkland course at the heart of the master plan.

"Retirement can get a little boring so participating in the community as employees is perfect for us. We get to meet wonderful people and be near activities we personally enjoy," Yvonne Brown said.

While Jerry Brown is starting or playing on the golf course, Yvonne Brown said she enjoys working out at the resident facility.

When she's on the clock, she welcomes residents and familiarizes newcomers with the amenities, which include the fitness center; resident lounge with a pool table; and an aquatic center with an adult pool, family pool and interactive splash pad.

While off duty, she said she is a regular on the treadmill and weight-strength machines.

"I love the fitness center and Jacuzzi, too. This facility is head and shoulders above the clubhouse at our former Las Vegas community," Yvonne Brown said.

"Our residents rave about the amenities and reasonable homeowner association fees of less than $45 monthly. People of every age appreciate that all of this is here for them."

The Browns' places of employment are located steps from their home at William Lyon Homes' Tramonto at Mountain Falls.

The 1,970-square-foot Plan One residence includes a great room, three bedrooms, up to three baths and a three-car garage. Buyers can opt for a den in lieu of the third bedroom.

"We loved Mountain Falls from our very first visit and immediately selected our home. That's how perfect it felt for us," said Yvonne Brown.

She owns a yellow lab Putter and said he also enjoys the golf course lifestyle.

"It's so relaxing to walk the trails with Putter while taking in the pristine grounds and pretty mountain views. We're out of the Las Vegas rat race and extremely happy with our new life," she said.

Seven neighborhoods are selling at Mountain Falls. Home buyers can tour decorated model homes.

In addition to Tramonto, William Lyon Homes also offers Entrata, Cascata Ancora and Bella Sera.

Home buyers can choose from 14 single-story floor plans measuring 1,157 to 2,897 square feet with up to five bedrooms and four baths.

Prices start in the high $100,000s.

Celebrate Homes is selling Villa Serena and Villagio, single-story neighborhoods with three floor plans each.

Priced from the low $200,000s, residences range from 1,609 to 2,513 square feet with up to four bedrooms and three baths.

Tivoli by Desert Wind Homes offers three single-story home designs ranging from 1,938 to 2,097 square feet with as many as four bedrooms and 31/2 baths.

Prices start in the $200,000s.

Classic Homes will debut new homes soon, according to William Lyon Homes officials.

Mountain Falls' community resident facility occupies a Mediterranean-style clubhouse shared by the Grill Room, a family friendly restaurant open to the public.

The Grill Room serves breakfast and lunch daily, dinner Thursday through Saturday, and Sunday brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Banquet facilities can accommodate up to 200 guests.

To visit from Las Vegas, travel about 45 miles west on State Route 160 (Blue Diamond Road) past Interstate 15. Before reaching Pahrump, turn left on Manse Road.

Proceed to Hafen Ranch and turn right, then left on Lakeview.

The Mountain Falls Information Center is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
