‘Ruler of the Realm’ fantasy fun
“Ruler of the Realm,” book three in Herbie Brennan’s “Faerie Wars Chronicles,” is a fast-paced fantasy.
Newly crowned Queen Holly Blue realizes the pressures of leadership quickly when the Faerie Realm becomes dangerously divided, with the Faeries of Light and the Faeries of the Dark on the brink of war.
Blue’s brother, Prince Pyrgus, is kidnapped by their Uncle Hairstreak and has a message for the queen from the leader of the Faeries of the Dark. Young Blue finds herself in quite a predicament, not knowing who to trust or what action to take with conflict brewing.
Meanwhile, their friend Henry Atherton is home in the human realm with little memory of his time among the Faeries. Henry attributes his vague recollections to stress caused by his parents’ impending divorce, that is until some little gray men with huge black eyes take him aboard their hovering silver spacecraft.
“Ruler of the Realm” is a fun continuance of Brennan’s popular series. The first two books are “Faerie Wars” and “The Purple Emperor.” The fourth book is “Faerie Lord” and is already out.
Fans of the “Artemis Fowl,” “Harry Potter” or “Septimus Heap” series should enjoy the “Faerie Wars Chronicles.” The books’ unpredictable magical twists will keep young readers turning pages.
