Rulffes calls it a day

Below you will find the full press release on the resignation of Clark County School District Superintendent Walt Rulffes.

This will be a big opportunity for the district. Hope the school board is strong enough to find fresh leadership willing to stand up to both the top-heavy admin bureaucracy and the tired "we need more money for less work" union mentality.

How about experimenting with a few union-free schools uncoupled from CCSD red tape?

Worth a try, seems to me.

Dear Friends and Colleagues:

Just a note to let you know that I have informed the Clark County School District Board of Trustees that I do not intend to extend my current contract, which concludes August, 2010. I know how rumors often take hold in organizations, so I’ll tell you that the only reason I am moving on is that life is short and it’s getting late. I’ve spent my last 12 years in the service of CCSD and I will be forever grateful for that opportunity.

My wife’s bucket list for us is getting longer and we need to start ticking off items that we have been putting off for years. The CCSD Trustees have been relentless advocates for maintaining and improving student services, and they have been wonderfully supportive of not only me as Superintendent, but also of the entire CCSD staff. There is a great deal of work to be done over the next several months, to which I will remain fully committed.

Until my service with CCSD concludes, please accept my most heartfelt thanks for your personal and professional acquaintance and ongoing support. The opportunities and friendship afforded to me through my work in the Clark County School District have been among the greatest in my career.

Sincerely,

Walt Rulffes
