Schaffel eliminated in eighth place

Kevin Schaffel was eliminated in 8th place at the World Series of Poker’s Main Event, winning $1.3 million.

In his final hand, he gave up roughly 20 million in chips to New York professional Eric Buchman, when his pocket aces didn’t hold. Buchman, who had pocket kings, picked up a third king on the river and fourth king on the turn.

Schaffel, a 51-year-old poker pro from Florida, had one of the most up-and-down afternoons at table, starting the day in sixth place and falling all the way to last. He was in fifth place when he busted out, having eliminated James Akenhead a few hands earlier.

Schaffel’s elimination moved Buchman to within 9 million of chip leader Darvin Moon.
