Selbst’s second bracelet win overshadowed by Esfandiari’s victory

While Antonio Esfandiari’s $18.3 million victory in the “Big One for One Drop” at the World Series of Poker captured the attention of the poker world this week, another notable win might have slipped everyone’s attention.
Vanessa Selbst became the second woman at the 2012 World Series of Poker to win a mixed-gender event, capturing the $2,500 buy-in 10-Game Mix / Six Handed event, beating a field of 421 players and earning $244,259.
For Selbst, 27, who graduated Yale Law School in June, the victory was her fourth in-the-money finish at the 2012 World Series of Poker and her second career individual event championship bracelet.
Selbst won a Pot Limit Omaha event in 2008, and was the last woman to win an open event until Las Vegas attorney Allyn Jaffrey-Shulman won the Seniors No Limit Hold’em Championship in June.
The victory gave Selbst almost $1.2 million in career World Series of Poker earnings.
Selbst said her goal coming into the 2012 World Series of Poker was to make two final tables and win a bracelet.
“I’ve accomplished those goals. So, I think it’s been a successful summer,” Selbst said.
Selbst is one is just 20 women to win a gold bracelet in the 39-year history of the World Series of Poker, not counting the women-only event. She also became the sixth woman to win multiple bracelets in an open buy-in event.
