Senator gets heat on comment about Angle

An impromptu comment about a speech Sharron Angle delivered to senators this week in Washington landed Georgia Republican Sen. Johnny Isakson in hot water back home.

Describing Angle's remarks on Tuesday, Isakson told Capitol reporters, "It was not the type of speech you would make if you were speaking to the unwashed back home, so to speak."

Uh-oh. Some Georgians didn't appreciate the reference, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"It's nice to know what Sen. Isakson really thinks of his constituents [myself included] back home," one blogger wrote, according to the Atlanta paper. "We'll see what the so-called ‘unwashed' in Georgia have to say in November."

Isakson apologized today,  calling it "a poor choice of words."
