Shea Homes expands into market

Shea Homes, one of the nation's largest family-owned home builder, announced its plans to purchase the 532-lot Ardiente master-planned community in North Las Vegas. The private guard-gated development will be renamed Shea Homes at Ardiente. This project was previously owned by Centex Homes, which shut down Las Vegas operations in 2008.

"Las Vegas has always been a dynamic housing market and a natural choice for Shea Homes, in particular the active adult segment," said Rick Andreen, president of Shea Homes.

"We expect success in this market to be buoyed by a naturally occurring synergy between Shea brand awareness, high customer satisfaction scores in California and the migration of retirees from California into Las Vegas. Shea's innovative home designs and award-winning track record will provide migrating buyers new choices in housing from a familiar, trusted name.

"Shea Homes will open a temporary sales center and welcome visitors beginning April 5 in the gated community's 20,000-square-foot clubhouse. The homebuilder will debut three new model homes in mid-2010."

Shea Green Certified homes will range from 1,400 to 1,900 square feet with pricing from $150,000 to $209,000. Shea Homes is the first production home builder in the United States to introduce green, eco-friendly elements as standard, not optional, features.

"The Las Vegas market has very favorable demographics and with no state income tax is evolving into a very affordable alternative for West Coast retirees," Andreen said.

The Shea name may be familiar to Nevadans due to the Shea family's involvement in construction for more than a century. Locally, Charlie Shea and the J.F. Shea Co. were contractors on the Colorado River diversion tunnel and remained on that job as project manager overseeing the six companies building the Hoover Dam.

"Shea Homes is happy to return to the Las Vegas market and looks forward to the continuation of doing business here for years to come," Andreen said.
