SHOOTING STARS EXTRA: ‘Pawn Stars’ spawns Las Vegas spinoff
September 21, 2010 - 5:26 pm
With History's made-in-Vegas "Pawn Stars" such a hit, a spinoff seemed inevitable. And, it turns out, it was.
Which explains the four-episode "Rusty Nuts," spotlighting Rick's Restoration guru Rick Dale, which debuts on History Oct. 18.
"Rusty Nuts" follows Dale's work as owner of "a family business that finds, restores and 'up-cycles' cool objects ranging from Cadillacs to Coke machines," according to History's announcement of the show.
On "Pawn Stars," Dale "has restored everything from barber chairs to a 1937 gas pump," the History description continues. "The before-and-after reveals of his work are always highlights on 'Pawn Stars,' in part because of the history nuggets Rick Dale shares about each object, including where, when and why (it was) invented, who used them and how fixing or transforming them changes their value."
Each "Rusty Nuts" episode will follow Dale, his staff — and his teenage son — as they search for objects to buy, barter and transform.
The show is another made-in-Vegas project from Leftfield Pictures, which also produces "Pawn Stars."
And in other cable news, Discovery Channel Canada's "24/7" checks in Wednesday for a five-day behind-the-scenes shoot at Bellagio's resident Cirque du Soleil show, "O." The hourlong episode is scheduled for telecast next April as part of a series that also includes visits to such high-intensity sites from New York's Grand Central Terminal to the Panama Canal.
No U.S. telecast has been set for the show, according to series producer Leslie Cote, "but there is interest."
As a reminder, Shooting Stars returns to its regular Monday slot Oct. 11.
