Southern Highlands raises funds for charity
The Southern Highlands master-planned community hosted its fifth annual Memorial Day celebration at Stonewater Park in Southern Highlands. The event brought out as many as 2,700 residents and raised over $8,000 for Operation Warmheart -- the emergency assistance fund for families of enlisted military personnel at Nellis Air Force Base.
Attendees were entertained by 70 musicians from the UNLV summer community concert band, and led in the national anthem by 10-year-old Ellie Smith. A presentation of colors was performed by the Nellis honor guard and two Nellis Air Force Base F-16 fighters performed a fly-over.
Sponsored by Southern Highlands Realty, a special "kids zone" provided bounce houses, a rock climbing wall, carnival games, pony rides and scientific experiments by the Mad Scientists. Southern Highlands Realty also provided goody bags for kids.
Sponsored by Olympia Companies, Southern Highlands Development Corp., the builders of Southern Highlands and Southern Highlands Realty, the annual event is free to residents and continues to be among the best attended events in the community each year.
