TRAIN CONDUCTORS SOUGHT FOR OPPORTUNITY VILLAGE EVENTS

Opportunity Village, 6300 W. Oakey Blvd., is seeking volunteer conductors to drive the Forest Express Passenger Train during the nonprofit’s annual Magical Forest and HallOVeen events.

Classes are planned from 6-8 p.m. Wednesdays and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays. Those who are interested should contact Jane Bjorklund at 702-880-4038 or bjorklundj@opportunityvillage.org. A driver’s license is not required, but volunteers must be at least 18.

HallOVeen is set for 6-10 p.m. Oct. 3-5, 10-12, 17-19, 24-26 and 30-31. The Magical Forest is slated for Nov. 21-Jan. 4, with hours planned from 5:30-9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5:30-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

BLOOD DRIVE SCHEDULED AUG. 30 AT SPRING VALLEY LIBRARY

The Spring Valley Library, 4280 S. Jones Blvd., plans to host a blood drive from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. every Saturday beginning Aug. 30.

Donors are slated to receive a free cholesterol test and 600 points that can be redeemed for prizes in the United Blood Services Blood Hero program.

CLASS TO OFFER HELP WITH USING COMPUTERS

A free class called Personal Computer Help is scheduled from 2-4:30 p.m. Sept. 5 at the Spring Valley Library, 4280 S. Jones Blvd.

GROUP HELPS ATTENDEES IMPROVE ENGLISH LANGUAGE SKILLS

A free English conversation group is planned from 2-3 p.m. every Friday beginning Sept. 5 at the Spring Valley Library, 4280 S. Jones Blvd.

The sessions are aimed at helping attendees improve their skills with the language.

EARLY BIRD DISCOUNTS OFFERED FOR GREAT SANTA RUN

An early bird discount for Opportunity Village’s annual Las Vegas Great Santa Run is planned through Aug. 31.

The cost is $40 for individuals, $35 per person on a team of five or more and $25 for children younger than 17. As of Sept. 1, the costs will be $45, $40 and $30, respectively.

Registration includes a five-piece Santa suit and a goody bag. Participants are encouraged to bring their canine companions for $10 to receive a doggie bag full of treats and toys. Dogs must remain on a leash at the event, scheduled in downtown Las Vegas.

Live entertainment, a 5K run and a 1-mile walk are planned.

RAINBOW COMPANY YOUTH THEATRE PLANS AUDITION

The Rainbow Company Youth Theatre plans an audition for the musical “Meet Me in St. Louis” at 1 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St.

Roles are available for girls 8 or older, boys 12 or older and adults 18 or older. A prepared song is recommended, and participants should come dressed to move and bring their imaginations. The production is planned for Dec. 5-12.

The Derfelt Senior Center plans a free senior information workshop for those 55 or older from 10 a.m.-noon Aug. 28 at Lorenzi Park, 3343 W. Washington Ave.

SIGN-UPS START FOR CLASSES AT CHARLESTON HEIGHTS ARTS CENTER

Registration is underway for fall classes at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St.

Registration is slated to end Sept. 3 for classes planned for Sept. 10-Oct. 18.

New classes include embroidery technique and traditions and dance choreography workshops for ages 12 or older.
