Star-studded benefit concert headed for UNLV
A constellation of Broadway stars is on the way to light up Las Vegas over the Labor Day weekend.
“Frank Wildhorn & Friends,” a three-performance benefit for Nevada Conservatory Theatre, will take up residence at the Judy Bayley Theatre at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Sept. 4, 5 and 6.
Wildhorn, a famed Broadway composer, will appear with Great White Way performers Linda Eder, left, and Lea Salonga, right — both of whom have appeared at UNLV over the last year — as well as Rob Evan and Douglas Sills. Robert Brewer, artistic director of NCT, says the program will use the holiday shows as a launching pad for a European tour.
In 1999, Wildhorn became the first composer in 22 years to have three shows running simultaneously on Broadway — “Jekyll & Hyde,” “Scarlet Pimpernel” and “The Civil War” — which garnered eight Tony nominations between them. He’s now preparing to debut another three musicals: “Wonderland,” “Bonnie & Clyde” and “Havana.”
The three UNLV shows will feature songs from Wildhorn’s repertoire, as the composer accompanies the singers on piano.
Tickets are $40, $50 and $60, with a limited number of $100 Opening Night Gala tickets available, including concert seats and a reception. Call the box office for tickets and more information at 895-2787.
