Sudden riches turn life upside down in ‘Salting Roses’
Gracie Lynn Calloway grew up in Shady Grove, Ala., knowing she was different from the folks who were raising her, but it never occurred to her that anything about it was wrong. After all, she had been left on their front door step in a coal bucket and was grateful they took her in.
Gracie was happy and well-cared for as a child and now feels content to make the most of her small-town life. But her foundation is rattled when private investigator Sam Fontana shows up and informs Gracie she's actually an heiress who had been kidnapped as a child and her real family in Connecticut wants her back.
To which Gracie replies with a polite “No, thank you.”
In her debut novel, “Salting Roses,” author Lorelle Marinello gives us a spunky, sassy character in Gracie as well as a lively story of a poor girl suddenly turned rich girl.
As much as she would like to ignore her new-found fame and fortune, Gracie realizes she has some tough decisions to make, especially when the paparazzi and a herd of less-than-stellar relatives come calling. She suspects that Sam might have some alternative motives as well, but soon finds that he is the one stabilizing factor in her newly changed life. As she comes to depend more and more on his advice, Gracie is surprised to discover that she is slowly but surely falling for the handsome investigator.
Marinello has crafted an engaging story that is full of humor with a generous helping of romance. The secondary characters are quirky and interesting, but it’s the main characters of Gracie and Sam that will charm readers and leave them wanting to know more about their future together.
