ANNUAL LANDSCAPE CONTEST TAKING APPLICATIONS

Applications for the Southern Nevada Water Authority's 14th annual Landscape Awards competition are being taken through May 7.

The awards honor residential and professional water-efficient landscapes that are both attractive and functional in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Laughlin and unincorporated Clark County. Winners will be announced at a special breakfast ceremony in June.

WOMEN'S CLUB OF SUMMERLIN PLANS FASHION SHOW saturday

The Women's Club of Summerlin plans to host a fashion show event from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Bear's Best Las Vegas, 11111 W. Flamingo Road. This event will be supporting its Dare to Dream grant program. Tickets are $35, which includes lunch and an informal fashion show with Eccoci fashions.

WOMEN'S HEALTH FAIR COMING
TO MOUNTAINVIEW HOSPITAL

MountainView Hospital plans to host the Women Rock! Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the hospital's main lobby, 3100 N. Tenaya Way.

This event will offer free screenings, physician lectures and information about a wide variety of women's health issues. Plus, visitors will have the opportunity to meet "Eddy," the da Vinci Si HD Surgical Robot, and several highly skilled surgeons who operate using this state-of-the-art laparoscopic device. There also will be raffle prizes, music and more.

BABY'S BOUNTY, PREVENT CHILD ABUSE NEVADA PLAN SATURDAY EVENT

Baby's Bounty and Prevent Child Abuse Nevada plan to host a free community event from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Tivoli Village, 440 S. Rampart Blvd.

RED ROCK INTERPRETIVE ASSOCIATION
TO ANNOUNCE ART CONTEST WINNERS

The Red Rock Interpretive Association plans to announce the winners of the 2012 Red Rock Canyon Art Contest Saturday at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area amphitheater, 1000 Scenic Loop Drive. Participants are kindergarten through 12th-grade students of Southern Nevada. Entries reflect wildlife of the Mojave Desert and Red Rock Canyon. Light refreshments will be provided, and winning entries will be on display in the gallery.

JEWISH GENEALOGY SOCIETY TO MEET
AT SAHARA WEST LIBRARY

The Jewish Genealogy Society of Southern Nevada plans to host its monthly meeting at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave.

The speaker is scheduled to be Kahlile Mehr, manager of the Slavic Collection of the LDS Family History Library. He will talk about the types of documents that the Family History Library digitizes and search techniques.

There is no charge to attend meetings. The group meets at 1 p.m. on the third Sunday of each month.

NIGHT HIKES PLANNED AT RED ROCK CANYON

Join Aaron Leifheit, environmental education specialist for the Red Rock Canyon Interpretive Association, to watch the sun set and Jupiter shine at Fossil Ridge at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area Monday.

The day before marks Jupiter's closest approach to the Earth, so there should be be excellent opportunities to see the planet. A moderate 2½-mile hike is planned.

The Interpretive Association plans to host the Cottonwood Valley Star and Meteor Hike April 23 at Red Rock Canyon.

Flat and expansive, Cottonwood Valley is perfect for a night hike. The hike is scheduled on the tail end of the Lyrid Meteor Shower. A moderate four-mile hike is planned. Learn the stories behind several popular constellations.

Both hikes are for those 12 or older, and participants are asked to bring flashlights.

SHREDDING EVENT SET IN SUN CITY

A free shredding event is planned from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in the parking lot of the Mountain Shadows Community Center, 9107 Del Webb Blvd. in Sun City Summerlin.

Volunteers will unload up to five boxes or bundles from each car until the capacity of the truck is reached. Services are provided by Opportunity Village.

The event will feature refreshments, while supplies last.

TOUR DE SUMMERLIN CYCLING EVENT SET
FOR APRIL 21

The 2012 Tour de Summerlin cycling event is scheduled to bring hundreds of cyclists through Summerlin and Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area April 21. The event offers 40-, 75- and 100-mile treks and will benefit the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada.

BRANDEIS NATIONAL COMMITTEE TO MEET

The Brandeis National Committee, Las Vegas Chapter plans to host its general meeting at 11:30 a.m. April 26 at the Jewish Community Center, 9001 Hillpointe Road.

The guest speaker will be Dane S. Claussen, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union. There also will be an election of officers for the fiscal 2012-13 year.

The cost of the luncheon, catered by Spiedini, is $14. Proceeds are dedicated to the BNC Las Vegas Chapter Endowed Scholarship Fund.

MAD MUD RUN AND MUDPUPPY SPLASH
SET FOR APRIL 21

The Mad Mud Run and Mudpuppy Splash for kids is planned for 10 a.m. April 21 at Knickerbocker Park, 10695 W. Dorrell Lane in the Providence master-planned community.

Pre-event check-in is scheduled from 5 to 7:30 p.m. April 20 at the REI store in Boca Park, 710 S. Rampart Blvd.

Test yourself on the four-mile, action-packed course with boot camp-style activities, such as a belly crawl, balance beams, a water wall, a tire array, hay bales and the 40-foot-long mud pit.

The minimum age to participate is 12. For those under 18, special waivers are required. The cost is $60 per adult. The 100-meter Mudpuppy Splash is open for children for $15 per child.

New and gently used books will be collected for Spread the Word Nevada.

AID FOR AIDS OF NEVADA PLANS ANNUAL FUNDRAISING WALK SUNDAY

Aid for AIDS of Nevada plans to host its 22nd annual AIDS Walk beginning at 8 a.m. Sunday at the Student Union on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway.

GRANT WILL HELP STOCK FOOD PANTRY

Helping Hands of Vegas Valley has received a $10,000 grant from health care provider CareMore. The grant will help fund HHOVV's low-income qualified food pantry, which serves an average of 355 clients monthly.

Helping Hands of Vegas Valley is a nonprofit organization that provides assistive services to senior citizens in Southern Nevada, allowing them to maintain their dignity and independence while improving daily living.

CITY OF LAS VEGAS OFFERS SUMMER CAMPS

The city of Las Vegas invites parents to enroll children in summer day camp programs at six area community centers. Summer camps are planned from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, beginning June 11. The Lorenzi Adaptive summer hours will be from
7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be no camps July 4.

Summer camps consists of age-appropriate activities, including field trips, sports, special events, physical fitness and games, arts and crafts, and nutrition training, under the supervision of trained staff members.

Preferred walk-in registration for those who were enrolled in city of Las Vegas' 2011 summer camps will be offered from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at each participating center. Open registration begins at 8 a.m. April 19 by telephone and in person.

Registration closes when the programs are full. All locations will have limited enrollment. Contact each location for details and enrollment.

Summer camps are priced at $75 per child for the week and $70 for additional children in the family.

Participating centers are:

Cimarron Rose Community Center, 5591 N. Cimarron Road, 229-1607, for children 6 to 11, camp ends Aug. 24.

Doolittle Community Center, 1950 N. J St., 229-6374, for children 6 to 15, camp ends Aug. 24.

East Las Vegas Community Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave., 229-1515, for children 6 to 15, camp ends Aug. 24.

Stupak Community Center, 251 W. Boston Ave., 229-2488, for children 6 to 15, camp ends Aug. 24.

Two community centers will offer themed specialty camps with additional activities, cooking and/or field trips. The cost will be $115 per child for the week and $110 for additional children for most camps.

Those centers are:

Mirabelli Community Center, 6200 Hargrove Ave., 229-6359, for children 6 to 15, camps end Aug. 17.

Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center, 101 N. Pavilion Center Drive, 229-1100, for children 6 to 14, camps end Aug. 24.

A separate Lorenzi Adaptive summer program for those ages 7 to 22 with disabilities will be offered from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday at the East Las Vegas Community Center only. The center is at 250 N. Eastern Ave. Participants will enjoy a new recreation experience every week, community outings, sports, games, arts and crafts, swimming and movies.
