Summerlin a’splash with swimming pools

Hundreds of Summerlin residents have already made their way to one of the community's three pools this summer, according to Lezlie Barnson-DeNardin, director of community relations for The Summerlin Council, the nonprofit arm of the Summerlin Community Association. "Summerlin's pools are important recreational amenities, especially during the hot summer months," she said. "As the temperatures heat up, so does the activity level."

Summerlin has two private community pools for the exclusive use of residents that are owned, operated and programmed by The Summerlin Council. A third pool, Veterans Memorial Olympic Swimming Pool, is owned and operated by the city of Las Vegas as a public facility.

"Whether you're interested in swimming laps, slipping down a slide or lounging in the cool water, there is a pool in Summerlin for you," said Julie Cleaver, director of planning and design for The Howard Hughes Corp., an affiliate of General Growth Properties, Inc. and developer of Summerlin. Summerlin's two private community pools are located in The Trails and The Willows villages. A third private community swimming pool is planned to open next summer in The Vistas village.

Veterans Memorial Olympic Swimming Pool, which operates as Summerlin's only public pool, opened in 2002.
