Summerlin Centre to be hub of community
August 4, 2007 - 9:00 pm
The village of Summerlin Centre isn't just the geographic center of Summerlin, it's also the center of current development activity within the master-planned community.
"Significant construction is beginning to transform the area into neighborhoods, shopping centers, office parks, recreational areas, and more," said Peggy Chandler, senior vice president of community development for The Howard Hughes Corp., an affiliate of General Growth Properties and developer of Summerlin. "Summerlin Centre was always planned to become the core of the community -- our 'downtown' area -- and it's well on its way."
The most notable project under construction in Summerlin Centre is the 1.5-million-square-foot regional retail center.
"With an anticipated first phase opening set for 2009, we still have a way to go with this project but we have six months of infrastructure work already under our belt," said John Magnuson, director of construction for General Growth Properties. "We're moving a lot of dirt, and we have a lot of equipment on site," he said. "The area is bustling with activity and it's exciting to see the progress on this much-anticipated shopping center. Summerlin residents are eager to have a major shopping destination in their own backyard."
Another significant project in Summerlin Center is a 286,000-square-foot office building that will be home to City National Bank and other businesses. More than 1.5 million square feet of office space is planned for Summerlin Centre in addition to a central plaza that will host public and civic events.
The village offers 50 floor plans. Actively selling neighborhoods include C2 Lofts by A Christopher Co.; Cypress and Palmilla at Allerton Park by Woodside Homes; Montage and Travata at West Park by Ryland Homes; Villa Trieste at West Park by Pulte Homes; West Park Courtyards and Villas by William Lyon Homes; and Traccia by Toll Brothers, which features the Balboa, Huntington and Newport Collections.
Homes range from 1,530 to 3,175 square feet and are priced from the low $300,000s to more than $1 million.
