Summerlin holds Strawberry event
May 3, 2008 - 9:00 pm
The entire Las Vegas Valley is invited to attend the second annual Summerlin Strawberry Festival May 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the farmers' market at The Gardens Park, which is located in Summerlin at 10401 Gardens Park Drive near Town Center Drive and Desert Inn Road. Admission to the festival is free.
The festival features a variety of family friendly activities that involve strawberries, including a toss, race, hulling contest and even a shortcake-eating contest. Additional children's activities include a face painter and visits from the community's jackrabbit mascot, Summerlin Sam.
The Summerlin Strawberry Festival is hosted by the Las Vegas Farmers Market LLC and The Summerlin Council, the nonprofit arm of the Summerlin Community Association dedicated to the social, recreational, cultural and educational enrichment of residents and co-sponsor of the weekly farmers' market.
"Our community's weekly farmers' market is a popular attraction for many Summerlin residents who appreciate the opportunity to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables. The farmers' markets are reminiscent of small town USA and truly resonate with community residents," said Lezlie Barnson-DeNardin, community relations director for The Summerlin Council.
"The Strawberry Festival is an opportunity for the entire valley to enjoy a farmers' market. And it's an especially fun one with the unique strawberry-focused activities."
The Las Vegas Farmers Market brings fresh produce and homemade products from vendors throughout the western United States to The Gardens Park every Tuesday.
Regularly featured items include fresh fruits, vegetables, soaps, lotions and other beauty products in addition to a variety of crafts, including candles, scrapbooks and handcrafted jewelry.
