Summerlin offers dining, events to celebrate this Valentine’s Day

Valley residents seeking a romantic place to celebrate Valentine's Day are invited to consider celebrating the holiday in the master-planned community of Summerlin. The community's many restaurants, events and venues provide options for romantic dates -- from outdoor hikes to quiet dinners and tastings, according to Tom Warden, senior vice president of community and government relations for The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin. A special highlight includes a pre-Valentine's Day event Feb. 8 at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts for its Sweets from Around the World event.

Now in its sixth year, Sweets from Around the World is a dessert-tasting and wine-pairing event that features popular chocolates and pastries from different countries around the world. The desserts are made by chefs and students from the college. Le Cordon Bleu has limited attendance to only 120 guests this year with a cost of $35 per person. Valley residents interested in attending Sweets from Around the World at Le Cordon Bleu can make reservations by calling 851-5322.

There are several other ways to celebrate this romantic holiday in Summerlin, according to Warden. There are dozens of spa treatment options and room accommodations at JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa and Red Rock Casino Resort Spa and more than 75 dining venues located throughout the community.

"During the last decade, dozens of new restaurants have opened in Summerlin providing dozens of casual and fine dining options at all price points," Warden said. "Summerlin is emerging as a culinary hot spot in the Vegas dining circuit."

Views and dozens of outdoor recreational opportunities are available at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. "There is something to be said for getting out of the city and enjoying the quiet open space at Red Rock Canyon," Warden said.

"Going to the movies, playing a round of golf, having a picnic in the park are other ways to celebrate Valentine's Day in Summerlin. The possibilities are endless."

Developed by The Howard Hughes Corp., an affiliate of General Growth Properties Inc., Summerlin began to take shape in 1990.

Located along the western rim of the Las Vegas Valley, Summerlin encompasses 22,500 acres with 9,000 still remaining to accommodate future growth within the master plan, including the community's urban core of Summerlin Centre. There are more than 98,000 residents with access to amenities that include more than 150 neighborhood and village parks, more than 150 completed miles of the Summerlin trail system, nine golf courses, a dozen houses of worship, shopping centers, medical and cultural facilities, business parks, 25 public and private schools.
