Summerlin offers parks

In Summerlin, there are 22 community parks and hundreds of neighborhood parks offering a variety of recreational amenities.

"Parks and open space areas are an integral component of the Summerlin master plan," said Kevin Orrock, top division executive of The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin. "Every village is designed around a major community park or golf course. These areas serve as gathering places for residents who enjoy outdoor activity, social interaction and scenic views."

Community parks range from 5 to 70 acres and typically feature a recreational theme. For example, The Vistas Community Park is a 20-plus-acre park including Summerlin's first football field, three baseball fields, tennis and basketball courts, and children's play areas. Other parks focus specifically on certain sports, such as The Arbors Tennis & Play Park with five lighted tennis courts, including a stadium court for spectator viewing.

"Parks are designed to accommodate the diverse interests of our residents, who are frequently asked to participate in surveys that rank the popularity, usability and desirability of specific park amenities," Orrock said.

Summerlin's newest community park, The Mesa Park, is scheduled to open this fall. The 19-acre park will feature three Little League baseball fields (one with a concession stand), lighted tennis and basketball courts, a tot lot area and picnic ramadas.
