Summerlin to provide adventures

The master-planned community of Summerlin is launching a six-week Adventure Days campaign (summerlinadventuredays.com) to highlight its amenities and healthy outdoor lifestyle.

The campaign features four major community events open to the general public.

They include Tour de Summerlin, a noncompetitive cycling ride; Mad Mud Run, a boot-camp style run that concludes in a mud pit; Summerlin Golf Tour, a summer-long community golf promotion; and Happy Trails Family Fun Walk/Run.

"The events are designed to tout Summerlin's active and vibrant lifestyle while showing off some of the community's award-winning amenities," said Tom Warden, senior vice president of community and government relations for The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin.

The noncompetitive cycling ride, Tour de Summerlin, kicks off Adventure Days today at The Vistas Community Park. The eighth annual event features a 10-, 35- and 80-mile ride through Summerlin and Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

The inaugural Mad Mud Run will be held May 23 at The Vistas Community Park. The approximately three-mile course features a variety of boot camp-style obstacles including a low wall, monkey bars, cargo net climb and hay bale obstacle course.

The event concludes with a run through a 40-foot long mud pit. Registration for this event is currently under

way.

"Whether participating or watching, the Mad Mud Run will undoubtedly be a wildly entertaining event," Warden said.

Also launching in May is the Summerlin Golf Tour.

Every Monday afternoon for 12 weeks starting May 27, Clark County golfers with an U.S.G.A. handicap can play one of six Summerlin golf courses for a $29 event fee that includes green and cart fees as well as prize money.

To join the Summerlin Golf Tour, registration is $29 and must be paid in person at any participating golf course, which includes Bear's Best Las Vegas, TPC Las Vegas, Red Rock Country Club -- The Arroyo Course and the Siena, -- Palm Valley and Highland Falls golf clubs.

Registration deadline is May 15 and play is limited each week to 100 players.

Adventure Days concludes on National Trails Day, June 6, with a Happy Trails Family Fun Walk and Run.

The 1.6-mile fun walk follows the trail in The Arbors Paseo Park and features some family friendly interactive games.

A Summerlin-based running club is organizing the fun run. Additional details will be posted online once confirmed.

Summerlin began to take shape in 1990 and is located along the western rim of the Las Vegas Valley. There are more than 100 neighborhood and village parks and nearly 100 actively selling floorplans.
