Summerlin’s new neighborhoods offer parks and other amenities
As new neighborhoods open in The Paseos and The Mesa villages in the master-planned community of Summerlin, they are immersed in a robust collection of amenities including parks, trails, shopping centers, schools, houses of worship and more.
“With thoughtful planning of each new neighborhood, we incorporate outdoor spaces and ensure each village has immediate access to parks, trails and open space, as well as retail and educational opportunities,” said Julie Cleaver, vice president, Summerlin. “In Summerlin, the park and trail amenities create the community’s hallmark outdoor lifestyle that comes standard with every new home purchase.”
Summerlin has more than 150 parks of which more than 20 are large programmed regional parks like The Paseos Park. Eight neighborhoods are currently selling near The Paseos Park, including Belmonte by Woodside Homes; Montecito by Toll Brothers; Segovia by Pulte Homes; and Tevare by KB Home which all broke ground this year. The Andorra neighborhood by Woodside Homes, Catalina and Esperanza neighborhoods by Lennar and Santaluz by Toll Brothers opened last year within walking distance of the park, for a total of 33 floor plans ranging from 1,849 square feet to 3,943 square feet. Homes are priced from the low $300,000s to low $600,000s.
As residents move into these still developing neighborhoods, they can take advantage of the village’s central amenity corridor that, to date, is more than halfway complete. Currently, the 12.5-acre Paseos Park, with its lighted junior soccer/tee-ball fields, basketball courts, a large shaded children’s playground, picnic pavilions and an interactive water feature anchors the village’s amenity offerings. This popular village park offers beautifully landscaped space where everyone can enjoy a ballgame, share a picnic or cool off in the hot summer heat. The park also includes trails that connect to Summerlin’s 150-mile-long trail system that meanders throughout the community and connects to the valley’s developing regional trail loop.
An enhanced trail system connects The Paseos Park to the underpass at Alta Drive, where an additional one-half mile of paseo and a second village park will soon be under construction. “Planning phase two of The Paseos park system was all about using the natural topography to create unique experiences for our residents,” said Cleaver. “The new 12-acre park, slated to open in 2015, will feature a central climbing tower, geometric turf bumps, slides built into the hillside, zip lines and innovative climbable play equipment, as well as large expanses of lawn, picnic ramadas, and educational features like a Learning Garden. This is one other way we continue to evolve the active lifestyle in Summerlin.”
In addition to the community parks, each neighborhood currently selling also has at least one pocket park where residents can play or relax just steps from their front doors. As a special feature in some of Summerlin’s newest Paseos neighborhoods, Cleaver and her team have redesigned the cozy pocket parks which typically sit just inside a neighborhood’s main entrance and converted them into formal landscaped spaces that create a grand arrival experience. “These new entrance designs shared by adjacent neighborhoods offer comfortable places for residents to meet and commune with new neighbors, creating yet another gathering place that encourages a healthy, active outdoor lifestyle,” said Cleaver.
