KIDVILLE TO HOST LIL REBELS DANCE PROGRAM AT TIVOLI VILLAGE

Kidville Lil Rebels Dance plans to present a performance by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Scarlet Dance Line at 4 p.m. Saturday at Tivoli Village, 302 S. Rampart Blvd. The program is a partnership between Kidville and UNLV’s Scarlet Dance Line. Children 6 to 12 can sign up for an eight-week dance program taught by some of UNLV’s finest dancers.

Classes are slated from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays at Kidville beginning Feb. 27 and are set to conclude April 27 with a dance performance showcasing the children’s work.

TIVOLI VILLAGE TO HOST PET ADOPTIONS SUNDAY

Pet adoptions are planned from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Tivoli Village, 302 S. Rampart Blvd. Look for the canine group in front of Shabby Chic. Animals will be on display and available for adoption from the Las Vegas Hot-Diggity Dachshund Club.

PARENTS CLASS PLANNED AT MOUNTAINVIEW HOSPITAL

The class What to Expect When you are Done Expecting is slated from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 28 in the first-floor classroom at MountainView Hospital, 3100 N. Tenaya Way. This class will provide information for parents regarding their hospital experience from delivery and beyond. Bring a baby-sized doll or stuffed animal to practice infant-care techniques.

NEVADA PRINCESS, MRS. NEVADA-AMERICA PAGEANTS SET FOR SUNDAY AT SUNCOAST

The Nevada Princess Pageant and the Mrs. Nevada-America Pageant are planned for Sunday at the Suncoast Showroom, 9090 Alta Drive. The Nevada Princess Pageant is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will include divisions of Little Miss (ages 4 to 6); Young Miss (7 to 9); Pre-Teen (10 to 12); and Teen (13 to 16). In each division, entrants will compete in the categories of evening gown, on-stage introduction and an interview with the judges. Eight of Nevada’s most accomplished married women will vie for the 2013 Mrs. Nevada-America crown, starting at 7 p.m. Contestants will be judged in the categories of evening gown, swimsuit, overall beauty and a four-minute interview with the judges. The newly crowned Mrs. Nevada-America will go on to compete in this year’s Mrs. America Pageant, scheduled for the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson, Ariz., Aug. 28.

WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY EDUCATION PROGRAMS SET AT MOUNTAINVIEW HOSPITAL

Bariatric (weight loss) surgery education programs are planned in the coming weeks at MountainView Hospital, 3100 N. Tenaya Way.

Through these free sessions, participants can learn more about: bariatric surgery options; who is an appropriate candidate for surgery; and what is involved in the surgery and recovery process.

The sessions are planned in the first-floor classroom at 6 p.m. Feb. 27, March 27 and April 24 and 10 a.m. March 9 and April 13.

READING WITH RASCAL PLANNED FOR MARCH 9 AT DESERT SPRING CHURCH

Reading with Rascal is planned from 10 a.m. to noon March 9 at Desert Spring United Methodist Church, 120 N. Pavilion Center Drive. Children will have the opportunity to sharpen their reading skills by reading with therapy dogs.

The program is set for the second Saturday of each month. One does not have to be affiliated with the church to participate.

WALK WITH ME FUNDRAISER TO COMING TO W. WAYNE BUNKER FAMILY PARK MARCH 23

Walk With Me, a fundraiser for Nevadans living with disabilities, is scheduled for 9 a.m. March 23 at W. Wayne Bunker Family Park, 7301 W. Alexander Road. This is Nevada’s fifth annual event and entails a two-mile walk, live music and Easter activities for the whole family.

Flamingo headliner George Wallace is on tap to entertain the crowd as this year’s host, and dance crew Jabbawockeez will serve as the walk’s grand marshals. The proceeds will help serve more than 8,000 Nevadans living with disabilities.”

The walk portion is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. The Easter carnival is slated for 10:15 a.m. and is planned to feature an Easter egg hunt, photos with the Easter Bunny, games and activities for the family, food, music and more. For a donation of $5, participants will receive entry into the Easter egg hunt. There will also be a special performance by School of Rock, the local chapter of the music school.

PUTTING CONTEST WINNER GETS CAR

Las Vegas resident John Pauli won a putt off-style contest Jan. 23 at Angel Park Golf Club, 100 S. Rampart Blvd., beating out 17 other contestants.

The event has been part of the OB Sports Golf Card program since 2003 for cardholders from area golf courses managed by OB Sports.

Pauli drove home in the new 2013 Toyota Camry with a complimentary two-year lease, courtesy of Desert Toyota of Las Vegas.

GAME NIGHT PLANNED FOR TODAY AT JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER

Hadassah Southern Nevada Chapter plans a Purim with a book and toy swap and game night from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Jewish Community Center, 9001 Hillpointe Road.

Bring gently used toys and books to swap with others. Suggested games to bring include mah-jongg, Rummikub and Scrabble.

Hamantaschen and other light snacks are scheduled to be available. Admission is $5.

SUMMERLIN LIONS TO HOST CHINESE NEW YEAR FUNDRAISER SATURDAY

The Las Vegas Summerlin Lions Club plans to host its 12th annual Chinese New Year Dinner Dance from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the JW Marriott, 221 N. Rampart Blvd.

Silent and live auctions are planned, and funds raised will help many charities, including the Lions Burn Care Center at University Medical Center; Blind Center of Nevada; Lions Sight First; City of Hope; Toys 4 Smiles; and Canine Companions for Independence.

ARTIFACT RAISING FUNDS FOR HEART ASSOCIATION FEBRUARY

Artifact, 420 S. Rampart Blvd. inside the Market LV at Tivoli Village, plans to host Love Locks during February. Its Love & Lock Wish Gate allows one to purchase a lock for $5 to $50, which is then secured to the wish gate.

All proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association. To further raise money, the gate will be auctioned off March 1.

FREE BEREAVEMENT CAMP PLANNED AT MOUNT CHARLESTON LODGE

Camp Solari, a weekend bereavement camp sponsored by the Solari Hospice Foundation, plans to offer children ages 6 to 17 and their surviving caregivers a free opportunity to learn healthy coping strategies and honor the memories of their loved ones.

The next camp is set for May 3-5 at the Mount Charleston Lodge, 5375 Kyle Canyon Road. Applications must be completed by March 11 to be considered for the spring camp. Planned activities include art, music, talk therapy, drumming, dancing and nature walks.
