Sun City Mesquite to host event
Party 4 Life will hold a fundraising event today from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to bring together those affected by cancer. The focus is to celebrate anyone who has battled cancer, remember loved ones lost and empower all to fight back against the disease.
Yoli Bell, founder of Mesquite Cancer Help Society, will be the opening speaker; participants will then begin the first lap in the 12-hour, relay/walk-a-thon. Also offered will be an Elk's Lodge breakfast, 5-mile run, three outdoor tournaments (an 18-hole putting, bocce and pickleball), four indoor tournaments (billiards, Bunco, bingo and bridge), grilling and barbecue courtesy of Elks Lodge and Mesquite Firefighters Association, Red Knights Motorcycle Club Poker Run, a silent auction, a carnival for the children, live music and entertainment with a luminary lighting closing ceremony.
"Party 4 Life is as much an awareness-raiser about the progress against cancer as it is a fundraiser," said Sydney Young, event chair and community manger for Sun City Mesquite. "Many of the participants will be people who have dealt with cancer themselves. Their involvement is proof of the progress that has been made in reducing cancer death rates and in the quality of life following cancer treatment. Everyone who participates is making a difference for our community."
One hundred percent of net proceeds raised will go to MCHS. Its goal is to make cancer information and education available and meet cancer patients' need for assistance.
