Sunrise Hospital uses Hybrid OR for aortic valve replacement

Sunrise Hospital didn’t waste any time putting its new Hybrid Operating Room to use.

Sunrise Hospital said in a statement that its first Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement procedure was completed on April 25. It said the treatment was the first of its kind in Southern Nevada and was done in the Hybrid Operating Room, which opened this year.
Until recently, the only way to get a new heart valve was to have open heart surgery. Sunrise Hospital said that has changed, with the TAVR procedure allowing patients to undergo aortic valve replacement through a small incision in the skin. It is a state-of-the-art treatment for aortic valve stenosis.
“This new procedure allows our team to provide a life-saving treatment combined with a minimally invasive approach,” said Sylvia Young, CEO of Sunrise Hospital and Sunrise Children’s Hospital.
The Hybrid OR allows for heart procedures that used to be performed in two separate rooms (cardiac catheterizations and surgeries) to be performed in one room and is designed for certain high-tech heart procedures.
