Police Unity Tour concert planned

A Police Unity Tour benefit concert featuring Crossfire is scheduled at 8 p.m. Friday in Sam's Town Live at Sam's Town, 5111 Boulder Highway. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

The Police Unity Tour is dedicated to raising awareness of law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty through an annual bike ride. This year, 14 riders and two support personnel from Southern Nevada plan to participate in the 300-mile ride from New Jersey to Washington, D.C.

Commissioner plans Whitney
spring cleaning April 21

Clark Clark County Commissioner Mary Beth Scow plans to host a neighborhood and graffiti cleanup in the Whitney area from 9 a.m. to noon April 21.

Volunteers are encouraged to gather at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Whitney Elementary School, 5005 Keenan Ave., and then fan out into the neighborhood to clean up trash and paint over graffiti. Dumpsters will be placed in several areas for residents to throw away unwanted household items. Some Dumpsters also will be available for disposing of hazardous materials such as paint and oil that cannot be picked up on normal trash collection days.

Devil Pup Leadership meeting planned

An informational meeting for prospective Devil Pups and their parents is planned at noon April 21 at the Leatherneck Club, 4360 W. Spring Mountain Road. The Devil Pups program trains teens 14 to 17 on Saturday mornings in preparation for a 10-day leadership and physical fitness training program at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in California. Only a handful of the teens nationwide pass the rigorous tests for entrance to the camp. The Paradise Town Advisory Board is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. today at the Paradise Recreation and Community Services Center, 4775 S. McLeod Drive.

The Whitney Town Advisory Board is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Whitney Recreation Center, 5712 E. Missouri Ave.

The Sunrise Manor Town Advisory Board is scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hollywood Recreation and Community Services Center, 1650 S. Hollywood Blvd.

Wetlands Park to celebrate birds

The Clark County Wetlands Park, Southern Nevada Water Authority, Nevada Department of Wildlife, Southern Nevada Agency Partnership, and the Red Rock Audubon Society are set to celebrate International Migratory Bird Day from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Clark County Wetlands Park, 7050 Wetlands Park Lane. Planned events include storytelling, making environmentally sound bird feeders, experimenting with owl pellets and the "Explore! Mobile Exhibit." The event is free, but space is limited. Center to host Hot Diggity Dog

Hot Diggity Dog, a monthly event featuring dog socialization and a speaker, is scheduled from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Cora Coleman Senior Center, 2100 Bonnie Lane. Racing events planned at speedway

The Mopars at the Strip competition is scheduled Thursday through Sunday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, 7000 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Tickets are $30 for one day and $75 for all days. RC Palooza to include Plane swap meet

The inaugural RC Palooza is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 21 at William Bennett Field, 6800 E. Russell Road. The site is best accessed by following the road that runs north of Sam Boyd Stadium and turning left just past the practice field. The event is set to include a day of flying and a swap meet with the opportunity to buy, sell or trade remote control aviation related items. An 8-foot swap meet space is $15.
