Volunteers to give Free Tax Help

AARP volunteers are set to help people with tax returns from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. most Fridays and Saturdays through April 13 at the Whitney Library, 5175 E. Tropicana Ave. Assistance is provided on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, call the AARP at 888-687-2277.

WETLANDS PARK TO HOST GUIDED HIKE

A Wetlands Park Weekend Walk is scheduled from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. Saturday at the Clark County Wetlands Park, 7050 Wetlands Park Lane. The walk is free, but space is limited, and registration is required. For more information or to register, call 702-455-7522.

The Winchester Town Advisory Board is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive.

The Paradise Town Advisory Board is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Paradise Recreation and Community Services Center, 4775 S. McLeod Drive.

The Whitney Town Advisory Board is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. Feb. 28 at the Whitney Recreation Center, 5712 E. Missouri Ave.

The Sunrise Manor Town Advisory Board is scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 28 at the Hollywood Recreation and Community Services Center, 1650 S. Hollywood Blvd.

Horse jumping show planned

An Open Breed Hunter Jumper show, organized by the Southern Nevada Hunter Jumpers Association is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at Horseman’s Park, 5800 E. Flamingo Road. Children’s Hoedown slated

A hoedown is scheduled from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Sunrise Library, 5400 Harris Ave. Children 6 to 11 are invited to wear Western gear for cowboy and cowgirl stories, games and line dancing lessons. For more information, call 702-507-3900.

Library to host Children’s African-American History Event

An African-American History Month story time is scheduled from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Whitney Library, 5175 E. Tropicana Ave. Children 11 or younger are invited to hear stories and songs and make crafts. For more information, call 702-507-4010.

FREE BEREAVEMENT CAMP PLANNED

Camp Solari, a weekend bereavement camp sponsored by the Solari Hospice Foundation, plans to offer children ages 6 to 17 and their surviving caregivers a free opportunity to learn healthy coping strategies and honor the memories of their loved ones.

The next camp is set for May 3-5 at the Mount Charleston Lodge, 5375 Kyle Canyon Road. Applications must be completed by March 11 to be considered for the spring camp. Planned activities include art, music, talk therapy, drumming, dancing and nature walks.

VEGAS PBS LAUNCHES EARTH DAY ART CONTEST FOR STUDENTS

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada is accepting submissions through March 14 for its Earth Day Art Contest.

Students in sixth through 12th grade can submit artwork that promotes the transportation commission’s sustainable initiative –– “quicker, cleaner, greener” –– with images of transit, carpooling, biking and walking. Two entries will be featured on a transportation commission vehicle.

Entries should have a message related to Earth Day and sustainable transportation; be in horizontal format on 11-inch-by-17-inch paper; be colorful and drawn with colored pencils, markers or paint; and be original in concept.

Submissions should be sent to the Regional Transportation Commission, attention: Aileen Pastor, at 600 S. Grand Central Parkway, Suite 350, Las Vegas, NV 89106. Artwork may be rolled up but not folded.
