Veteran Hiring event planned

Recruiting Firm RecruitMilitary plans to host a Veteran Opportunity Expo from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, 7000 Las Vegas Blvd. North. More than 300 veterans and military spouses are expected to attend to meet veteran-friendly employers. Town Advisory Boards to meet

The Paradise Town Advisory Board is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 31 at the Paradise Recreation and Community Services Center, 4775 S. McLeod Drive.

in free drawing class

Kids 5 to 11 are invited to learn to draw like Ed Emberley from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Whitney Library, 5175 E. Tropicana Ave. Emberley's books teach children to draw using combinations of simple shapes and letters. The event is free and open to the public, and no experience is needed. DIVAS' DAY OUT set for Saturday

Divas' Day Out is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the South Point, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

The event is set to feature more than 100 businesses with information on health, fitness, beauty, fashion, motherhood, finance, education and careers .

Singer Donny Osmond is scheduled to appear, as are Val and Maksim Chmerkovskiy from "Dancing With the Stars." The event is free. The first 1,000 women are expected to receive a free feather boa, and the first 500 can receive a party gals romance bag.

COMPUTER CLASS to teach THE BASICS

The Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway, is scheduled to offer a computer class from 10 to 11 a.m. Feb. 1. The seminar is expected to teach participants about computer basics. Class size is limited to 12, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Animal adoption event set for Feb. 4

Senior Spaniel Rescue of Las Vegas is planning Find Your Furry Valentine, a pet adoption event, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Bass Pro Shops at the Silverton, 3333 Blue Diamond Road.

Rescue groups will attend with a variety of pets available for adoption and to collect donations. Vendors, sponsorships and volunteers are needed.

STAR PARTY PLANNED
AT RED ROCK CANYON

The Las Vegas Astronomical Society plans to return to Red Rock Canyon for Astronomy in the Park at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

The evening is set to begin with the presentation "Getting Started in Astronomy," followed by a telescope viewing of the moon and Jupiter just after sunset and deep-sky viewing of galaxies, nebulae and star clusters as the sky darkens.

A laser-guided "What's Up Tonight" tour of the night sky is set to begin around 6:30 p.m. Americans with Disabilities Act parking and access to video-assisted viewing of the night sky is available.

RED ROCK CANYON HOURS CHANGE

The Bureau of Land Management advises residents that the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area Visitor Center and Scenic Loop Drive have different hours for the remainder of the month. Scenic Loop Drive will be open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the Visitor Center from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
