CIVIL AIR PATROL TO MEET

The Nellis Senior Squadron of the Nevada Wing Civil Air Patrol meets 7 to 8 p.m. the second and fourth Monday of each month in the Grand Canyon Room at the North Las Vegas Air Terminal, 2730 Airport Drive. Civil Air Patrol is a nonprofit organization with 56,000 members nationwide. It performs 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions. Attendees must be 18 or older. WINDERMERE SEEKS APPLICANTS FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY

Windermere Real Estate is accepting applications from organizations that wish to benefit from the company’s volunteer efforts.

Each year, the company’s Southern Nevada offices participate in Community Service Day Oct. 18.

Nonprofits and philanthropic organizations can apply to receive a full day of volunteer work from Windermere employees.

The project must be large enough to accommodate 40 to 80 volunteers between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

BLM SEEKS PHOTOS FOR SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

The Bureau of Land Management is celebrating Nevada’s Sesquicentennial, or 150th anniversary, by seeking photos that highlight residents’ adventures and activities on public lands and historic sites. Winning photos will be featured in the BLM Nevada 2014 planner and on the BLM Nevada web and social media sites and could appear on BLM’s national social media sites.

Photos will be selected from the following categories: Adventure &Outdoor Recreation; Historical &Cultural; Scenic, Seasons &Landscapes; and Animals. Photos must have been taken between Jan. 1, 2011, and Sept. 30, 2013. Contest entries will be accepted up to Sept. 30. Winners are to be announced Oct. 31.

In addition to the photo contest, the BLM will also be producing a children’s activity book, developing 150 themed geocaches and highlighting the BLM’s role in the state’s history.

BREAST CANCER SUPPORT GROUP PLANS SEPT. 11 MEETING

A Young Survivors Breast Cancer Support Group is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Breast Center at Sunrise, 3006 S. Maryland Parkway, Suite 250. The free group is for women 40 or younger who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY SERVICES LAUNCHES ONLINE CAREGIVER TRAINING

The Clark County Department of Family Services recently announced the launch of Just in Time Training, an online caregiver training program. The program provides tools to enhance parenting skills. A video library can be viewed at qpinevada.com. The site also provides viewers access to interactive webinars where participants can ask questions in real time. The Department of Family Services plans to produce videos for the site regarding topics requested by foster parents and caregivers. The resource is part of a statewide collaborative effort to provide children in foster care with effective, loving and committed parenting.

BANQUET TO RAISE FUNDS FOR STUDENTS

Young Life, a Christian youth outreach organization, has scheduled a fundraising banquet for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at Bear’s Best golf course, 11111 W. Flamingo Road.

The group has openings for several age groups, including Younglife (high school students), Wyldlife (junior high students), Younglives (teen mothers) and College life (college students). It has formed clubs at schools in Las Vegas and Henderson.

CANCER FOUNDATION TO HOST BONE MARROW DRIVE

The Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation seeks bone marrow matches for critically ill children in Southern Nevada. Sign up for the National Bone Marrow Registry at the eighth annual Bone Marrow Drive slated from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 19 at the foundation, 6070 S. Eastern Ave. It involves a swab of cheek cells to determine the donor’s tissue type. No needles or blood draws are involved. This year, as in past years, the foundation will cover the cost for those who join the registry.

Potential donors, between the ages of 18 and 50 who meet the health guidelines (visit marrow.org), will complete a brief health questionnaire and consent form to be listed on the registry. For those who are unable to join the registry, the foundation will accept monetary donations to cover the cost of the transplants. For more information, call 702-735-8434 or visit nvccf.org.
