Term limits a-comin’

If the strength of arguments by Legislative lawyer Kevin Powers were accurately reported and if the questions asked by Supreme Court justices are an accurate indicator of the outcome, term limits soon will be upheld in Nevada.

The key question came from Justice Jim Hardesty who asked after the ballot question was passed in 1994 and 1996: "Why did the Legislature wait 12 years to bring this up?"

The answer, I think, is that special interest groups and powerbrokers who hate term limits because it dilutes their power, figured their best chance at blunting the will of the people was to wait in the weeds and hope a politically oriented Supreme Court would do their dirty work.

Judging from Hardesty's question, I'd say that was a big miscalculation.

Whether you think it's for good or ill, term limits are a-comin' to the great state of Nevada.
