The anti-Planned Parenthood movement
In the pro-life movement in America, there's a growing trend to go beyond the wrangling of legislation and the scientific arguments that render American abortion law just plain silly, to get down in the trenches and combat abortion one mother at a time.
Essentially, this is the anti-Planned Parenthood movement. Instead of seeking out and facilitating the death of babies (that's how pro-lifers see the pro-choicers and Planned Parenthood), these compassionate folks set up pregnancy centers to find pregnant mothers and help - not yell and scream, but really help.
Take a moment to read this piece from the New York Times. It's inspiring.
PS: I suspect, however, that the editors of the NYTs looked at this story and thought "how weird, why don't they just send them to Planned Parenthood?" To which other's may ask why doesn't Planned Parenthood refer mothers to these organizations first?
