The book on Obama — he’s a very slow learner
The Complete Las Vegan this morning recommends all seeking completeness to cast a glance at Ron Suskind’s “Confidence Men: Wall Street, Washington, and the Education of a President.”
Now, I know my liberal friends fully invested in "The One" myth will be wont to refrain. But for the good of the country it's beneficial to understand that this presidency not only was over its head on the financial crisis from Day One, it still is. And now that the 2012 political season is fully under way (more's the pity) it is highly unlikely the Obama Administration will do anything smart between now and election day.
It's too bad that the president didn't really mean it when he said he'd rather do good in one term as president rather than do bad as a two-term president. I paraphrase, of course. But you know the idea. After bungling the economy in the first two years (as outlined in the book) he's now willing to sacrifice the economy for a shot at the second term.
But, alas, as this New Yorker piece concludes ... "But in this President’s case the learning has been perilously slow."
