The brothers the left loves to hate talk common sense

The lefties love to hate the Koch brothers and blame them for assorted woes, accusing them of financing schemes against their favorite causes and constituencies.

But what they are saying and what they stand for is rather fundamental Americanism.

Writing in today’s Wall Street Journal, Charles G. Koch spells out the problem in simple undeniable terms.

“Federal data indicate how urgently we need reform: The unfunded liabilities of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid already exceed $106 trillion,” Koch writes. “That's well over $300,000 for every man, woman and child in America (and exceeds the combined value of every U.S. bank account, stock certificate, building and piece of personal or public property).”

We owe more than we are worth and keep using the credit card to buy groceries.

But there is way out of the morass. Koch notes Canada cut its federal spending from 17.5 percent of GDP to 11.3 percent, and unemployment dropped, not increased as Goldman Sachs claims would happen. Out current federal spending is 25 percent of GDP.

Here is the protest at a meeting involving the Koch brothers in Rancho Mirage a month ago. Chants won’t put people to work.
