There’s nothing like this Las Vegas promotion
After an hour with AM 840 KXNT radio talk-show host Alan Stock, we managed to agree on something: The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is missing a promotional opportunity by not embracing the comments about Las Vegas made earlier this summer by President Barack Obama.
“There’s nothing like a quick trip to Las Vegas in the middle of the week,” Obama told attendees at Nellis Air Force Base, undoubtedly to soften the dust-up surrounding his previous statement, “You can't get corporate jets, you can't go take a trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayer's dime."
That line came after it was reported bank bailout-recipient Wells Fargo was sending executives on a party junket to Las Vegas to reward them for their nonsuccess.
It only stands to reason that Obama’s remark, teamed with other statements and images of previous presidents during their Las Vegas sojourns, would make a great commercial. And it just so happens that Vegas visitor volume is down most during, you guessed it, the middle of the week.
So why not take advantage of the statement?
It can’t be any more crass or commercial than the endless hawking of the unofficial Obama plates, coins, T-shirts, and posters.
