Worth a Drive

n First Friday fans can celebrate the event's 10th anniversary in the downtown 18b Arts District with two days of activities. Festivities are set to begin with pumpkin decorating and attempts at breaking 10 pumpkin-releated world records from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday in First Friday's Kids Zone, 1213 S. Casino Center Blvd. While supplies last, participants will receive a free pumpkin to decorate on site and take home. Decorating materials, snacks and beverages are to be provided. Art patrons are invited to head back to the Kids Zone from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Friday to see a competition featuring pumpkins crafted by downtown businesses. n The city of Las Vegas and the Original German American Social Club of Nevada plan to host an Oktoberfest featuring German music, dance, food, beer and children's activities from 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Historic Fifth Street School, 401 S. n Chapter AI plans a 1940-themed Sentimental Journey fashion show and tea at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mesquite Club, 702 E. St. Louis Ave. Entertainment will include big band tunes with a vocalist. n Kids can spend some time hanging out in the trees at the touring "Tree House: Look Who's Living in the Trees" exhibit scheduled to be on display through Jan. 14 on the second floor of the Lied Discovery Children's Museum, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North. The exhibit includes a tree house kids can explore, 3-D images of animals living in trees, an animal dance floor where kids can try to identify animal sounds and a computer forest game where children can harvest trees without harming wildlife. The museum also plans to showcase the exhibit "Torn From Home: My Life as a Refugee" through Dec. 16. The exhibit features photographs and interactive elements depicting refugee families from Columbia, Afghanistan, Republic of Congo and more.Visit ldcm.org.

n Harriet Smith fell in love with Africa on her first photographic safari in 1995. A photo exhibit capturing the Summerlin artist's journey through South and Eastern Africa's national parks is scheduled to be on display through Dec. 4 in the gallery at the West Las Vegas Library, 951 W.
