In honor of National Skating Month, the SoBe Ice Arena at the Fiesta Rancho, 2400 N. Rancho Drive, is encouraging guests to get on the ice with free skate rentals and group lessons for skaters of all ability levels from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday . Skaters 3 or older are encouraged to participate, and games and prizes will be awarded to participants. Reservations are not necessary. Public skate is normally $6.50, and skate rental is $3. "Nashville Unplugged: The Story Behind the Song" has expanded to Aliante Station, 7300 Aliante Parkway, each Saturday. All performances are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m., and there is a $5 cover at the door. Guests must be 21 years or older. The series teams guest songwriters in an evening of discussion and music. This week's featured songwriters are Regie Hamm and Brian White. Upcoming songwriters scheduled include Marc Beeson and Earl Bud Lee on Feb. 18, Dave Pahanish and Chas Sandford on March 17 and Greg Barnhill and Marty Dodson on April 14. The Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada plan to host the 16th annual Cookie Carnival from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Freedom Park, 850 N. Mojave Road.
