The Southern Nevada Chapter of the American Guild of Organists plans to open its 2012-13 organ recital series with a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Christ Church Episcopal at 2000 S. Maryland Parkway, featuring Richard Elliott, organist for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, 15 miles west of Las Vegas on state Route 159, is set to host its annual Civil War Days re-enactment Friday through Sunday. Friday is set aside as an education day with groups demonstrating traditional roles from the era from noon to 3 p.m. Battles are scheduled at 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Advanced registration is required and will cost $5 with a current $2 senior center membership. A PVC skeleton and a base will be provided, but participants are asked to bring an old pair of jeans and shirt, dress and shoes to create a scarecrow that will be used to decorate the center. Las Vegas City Councilman Steve Ross plans to host the Cowboy Christmas and Classic Car Show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 1 at Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs, 9200 Tule Springs Road. The free event is scheduled to include photos with Santa, hay rides, a petting zoo, a jump house, face painting, a farmers market, craft and food vendors and historic ranch house tours. The U.S. Marines will be collecting toys for Toys for Tots Drive, and the city will collect nonperishable food for needy seniors in the area.
