Worth a Drive

The PG-rated film "The Lorax" is scheduled to be shown at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Centennial Hills Park amphitheater, 7101 N. Buffalo Drive, as part of the Movie in the Park series. Attendees can bring low folding chairs and blankets to the free event.

J.R. Pony Parties, an educational farm, welcomes the public to visit from 10 a.m. to noon during Open Gate Days scheduled for today, Oct. 2, 16, 26 and 30, Nov. 7, 12, 23 and 28, and Dec. 4, 18 and 28 at 1753 Fairhaven Ave. Admission is $5, which includes pony rides, visits to the goat barn and more. Around 300 visitors are expected for this year's Pioneer Day scheduled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park. The park plans to offer pioneer activities throughout the day, including candle dipping, needlework and dancing. Fiddlers also are scheduled to perform. The Asian Harvest Moon Festival is scheduled from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Springs Preserve, 333 S. Valley View Blvd. Expect dance performances, crafts and a children's lantern parade. The touring "Tree House: Look Who's Living in the Trees" exhibit is scheduled for display through Jan. 14 on the second floor of the Lied Discovery Children's Museum, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North. The exhibit includes a tree house kids can explore, 3-D images of animals living in trees, an animal dance floor where kids can try to identify animal sounds and a computer forest game in which patrons can harvest trees without harming wildlife.
